TAITRA to boost Taiwan-India electric vehicle cooperation
Jan 04, 2018

TAITRA will be facilitating the formation of an alliance of Taiwanese manufacturers in the first quarter of 2018 to supply India’s booming electric vehicle (EV) market, according to TAITRA Chairman James Huang.

India is one of the world's biggest vehicle markets. Under the Indian government's plan, annual sales of electric and hybrid cars are to hit 6 million to 7 million by 2020, and then every car sold in India from 2030 onward will be electric.

Given the massive growth potential of EV in India, Taiwanese companies including Kenda, Everlight, KYMCO, SYM, and SWAP e-scooter will be among the first to take part in the trade mission led by TAITRA to visit India and form stronger ties with the country's EV industry in the first half of 2018.

According to Huang, TAITRA will also be leading Taiwanese makers in the EV industry to visit India and showcase their top innovations at the 2018 Taiwan Expo to be held in New Delhi from May 17 to 19.

An EV-themed pavilion showcasing the latest EV technology developed by Taiwanese companies will be set up at the Expo to encourage deeper connections and collaboration between the two countries in the EV market, Huang said.

TAITRA-organized events promoting EV collaboration have generated upward of US$100 million in business opportunities between Taiwan and India companies in 2017, Huang added.
