Hong Kong event in September 2017 is expected to draw more than 300 delegates
HONG KONG, December 19, 2016 --(ASIA TODAY)-- At the close of the fifth Asia-Pacific Housing Forum in Hong Kong, a plenary speaker summed up by saying, “No housing, no good outcomes.” It is apt that the sixth biennial event, which will be held in Hong Kong from September 4-7, 2017, has “Housing at the Center” as its theme. With an emphasis on collaboration and innovation, the 2017 conference organized by Habitat for Humanity is expected to attract more than 300 delegates from around the world for vibrant sharing of ideas and solutions for affordable housing. Four preliminary events will be held in Cambodia, India, Indonesia and the Philippines, building up to the forum in Hong Kong.
“Whenever I attend the Asia-Pacific Housing Forum, I never cease to be amazed by the dynamic exchanges, and the energetic search for sustainable housing solutions. In September 2017, I’m looking forward to coming together with those from the public, private and people sectors to address needs and find solutions for affordable housing. With each event, we look forward to making progress collaboratively. Together, we can ensure that everyone has a decent place to call home,” said Rick Hathaway, Vice President for Asia-Pacific, Habitat for Humanity.
The program for the 2017 forum has been developed with support from UN-Habitat, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Cities Alliance and other experts in the shelter sector.
At the 2017 conference, a resounding response is anticipated for the ever-popular Wharton-Habitat for Humanity housing finance course that was first introduced in 2013. Other noteworthy events include a Youth Congress which will be convened in recognition of youth being today’s leaders. A Housing Leaders Roundtable will also be held as part of the forum in Hong Kong. High-level government representatives from the Asia-Pacific region will be invited to share their insights on the importance of inclusive housing policies.
The sixth Asia-Pacific Housing Forum will feature four main tracks:
Technology for affordable housing: Presenting the latest technologies that can bring social good, ranging from construction materials to satellite mapping methodologies and web applications.
Innovative partnerships: Highlighting the potential of multi-level partnerships in achieving goals related to poverty alleviation and the provision of affordable housing in the Asia-Pacific region.
Resilience and social development: Focusing on how affordable housing can lift entire communities out of poverty, protecting people from natural disasters and generating livelihoods.
Sustainable urbanization and housing: Discussing the implementation of the New Urban Agenda which serves as the roadmap for global sustainable urban development in the next 20 years as well as initiatives that focus on housing as central to proper urban development.
