Over USD 8.5 bln worth of big data projects to be started in Nan'an District in Chongqing

Aug 29, 2019 (China Knowledge) - In the Nan’an District of Chongqing lies a place called the “Intelligence Valley of China (IVOC)”, which is a science and technology park spanning an area of 2.48 kilometers-square. IVOC was established in February 2018, and is now home to many Fortune 500 companies, such as Microsoft, Alibaba and Jingdong. The companies and institutions located in IVOC mainly research on the latest technologies, as well as carry out data intelligence research. So far, IVOC has attracted over USD 50 bln worth of investments.

The science and technology park is set to receive even more investments in the coming years. In a recent announcement by the management officials from both the IVOC and Nan'an district, 37 new big data projects, worth over RMB 60.8 bln (USD 8.5 bln), are set to be started in the location. These projects are mainly on smart manufacturing, healthcare, smart cities and energy research.

The biggest project is the “Yangtze River Dream Center”, worth over RMB 15 bln (USD 2.1 bln). This project will aim to create exhibitions that explore the areas of science, technology and the arts. Once completed, the project is expected to add around RMB 1.5 bln annually to Chongqing’s economy.

The investment also includes a RMB 10 bln (USD 1.4 bln) project, that seeks to integrate Internet of Things (IoT) into the creation of a smart city.

With numerous investments in the region, IVOC is set to become a key hub in the areas of science and technology, which will help boost the economic development and innovation within Nan’an District.
