Inaugural awards at the Asia-Pacific Housing Forum to recognize innovative and scalable solutions

MANILA, July 19, 2019 --( ASIA TODAY )-- This year’s Asia-Pacific Housing Forum in Bangkok, Thailand on September 16-19, 2019 will power up the recognition of industry leaders, innovators and disruptors in the affordable housing sector through the launch of its Innovation Awards.

“We are excited to add a thought-leadership dimension to the Asia-Pacific Housing Forum. The Innovation Awards celebrates emerging initiatives that promotes affordable and resilient housing. I am very supportive of how innovation could spark positive changes by creating fresh opportunities in the pursuit of meaningful housing solutions,” said Rick Hathaway, Asia-Pacific vice president of Habitat for Humanity.

The Forum will be the platform for finalists and winners in three categories - Construction Innovation, Community Initiatives and Spatial Planning, and Partnerships and Policies – to showcase their ideas. The competition is open to individuals, companies, institutions and organizations, including public and private project partnerships and initiatives across the Asia-Pacific region.

Entries will be shortlisted through a review by a group of jury members, comprised of housing stakeholders and experts, including Cities Alliance, the Hilti Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, UN-Habitat, the World Bank, Asia or Pacific universities like the University of New South Wales, and technology research and development centers. Finalists will be invited to Bangkok to attend the Housing Forum and pitch their innovation to a panel of experts. Winners from each category will be announced on September 18 during the Asia-Pacific Housing Forum Networking Dinner. Each winner will receive a trophy and a US$ 5,000 cash prize.

Now on its seventh run, the Asia-Pacific Housing Forum will cover four tracks and over twenty sessions on impact investing, inclusion and sustainability in urban development, resilient cities and communities, and responsive housing technologies.

Industry leaders serving as resource people and subject matter experts include Jaap Zevenbergen from the University of Twente in the Netherlands, Egbert Appel from the Hilti Foundation, Ajay Suri from UNOPS-Cities Alliance, Frank Pichel from Cadasta Foundation, Cha-ly Koh from Urbanmetry, among others.

Moreover, the program of the 4-day Asia-Pacific Housing Forum includes a training course on Strengthening Land Tenure Security for Disaster Resilience and a Youth Congress, recognized as a World Urban Campaign’s Urban Thinkers Campus in support of the New Urban Agenda and UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. Housing Forum preliminary events are happening this month in the cities of Hong Kong, New Delhi, Jakarta, Manila and Battambang.
