Dec 06, 2017

Heidi Sun, a Year 4 BBA marketing student of the School of Business of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), and her fellow team members from other overseas universities won the Overall Winner award at the Team Case Competition of the 2017 Global Leadership Summit of Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) held in Florida, USA, in November. The team successfully defeated 35 teams of business students from different universities across the world and was named champion for their innovative and creative solution for their assigned real-world business case as well as the effectiveness of their presentation.

The case that Heidi’s team presented was about the application of Internet-of-Things in the hospitality industry and how new technology can help in hospitality management and improve customer experience. Heidi was thankful to have had the opportunity to attend this meaningful event. She said: “Through the case competition, I got to learn how to use our strengths to work as a team and how to complete tasks within limited time constraints. The three-day Summit, with all the speeches from professionals in distinct areas, inspired me and sharpened my practical skillset in business analysis and building new networks. All of these will definitely help my future career.”

The Team Case Competition challenged 35 teams of business students from different universities across the world to collaborate and provide a solution to a complex business scenario. Each team presented to a panel of judges and the winning teams in the five categories showcased their business solutions to the full group of Summit attendees. One overall winning team was selected as the Champion of the competition.

As a High Honours chapter of BGS, the HKBU School of Business nominated a student to attend the 2017 Global Leadership Summit this year where participants had a chance to advance their leadership skills and build relationships with fellow leaders from other chapters around the world. During the Summit, students participated in a carefully cultivated series of leadership sessions designed to build upon each other to culminate in an intensive team competition.
