Friday, June 9, 2017 - Taipei, Taiwan - The clock is ticking as the 2017 call for entries deadline approaches for the Golden Pin Design Award. Companies and brands wishing to prove their prowess in the world’s largest market only have until June 30 to get their entries in! Award organizers the Taiwan Design Center are offering an alluring look-see into the kinds of projects designers will be up against if they enter.

Dreams the Bread, a bakery in Hong Kong designed by Plotcreative Interior Design, allows patrons to sit and enjoy their just-purchased baked goods under a wall decorated with real loaves of tea-flavored bread. Duo Dots Design, a conceptually driven studio also from Hong Kong, submitted a kaleidoscope-like table and pendant lamp series called DeLight, which features hand-folded geometric shades that can be reshaped using button magnets.

Working on naming, identity design, and packaging design, UK-based agency Pearlfisher created the Femme tampon brand for their Chinese client, Yoai. With only 2% of Chinese women using tampons, the brand identity and design speak to a new generation of Chinese women who are educated, ambitious, and expressive. LF Creative Group in Malaysia drew inspiration from the ancient Confucian text, The Twenty-four Filial Exemplars, for the packaging design for Marathon Globe Brand’s Chinese New Year edition Extra Virgin Pure Sesame Oil. Each bottle of oil is accompanied by small dipping plates that feature contemporary illustrations from the classic text.

China’s iconic Jiangsu Center for the Performing Arts needed an equally emblematic promotional campaign, a challenge which local firm Nanjing Han Qing Tang Design Co. Ltd were excited to take on. They created a series of poster themed on visual representations of four of the center’s key performing styles: drama, vaudeville, music, and opera. Beijing Miiw Technology Co. Ltd, also from China, entered their portable mouse design for pioneering Chinese electronics brand Xiaomi.

Swiio Hotel Daan in Taipei epitomizes the old adage, “A home away from home.” Renowned Taiwanese designers Fang Xu Zhung (Joe Fang) and Guo Zhida worked with SWIIO CEO Anderson Tung to create a residence for travelers who value the finer things in life. 4th Dimension Mechanical Watch is the latest design from contemporary concrete conjurors, 22 Design Studio. The Taiwanese firm takes its inspiration from the compact urban jungle that is Taipei.
