The Singapore Computer Society shines a spotlight on tech leaders, youths, and heroes

Singapore, 18 March 2021 - Following the gradual reopening of Singapore’s economy in the new normal amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Singapore Computer Society (SCS) went forth to honour its 2020 and 2021 luminaries from the tech field at the SCS IT Leader Presentation this afternoon.

The SCS IT Leader Presentation featured the IT Leader Awards 2020 and the IT Leader Awards 2021 - Tech Heroes From Crisis at the InterContinental Singapore to celebrate the outstanding achievements of industry leaders and young entrepreneurs who have contributed to the vibrant and competitive Infocomm Technology (ICT) industry in Singapore. The SCS IT Leader Presentation was graced by Guest-of-Honour Minister S Iswaran, Minister for Communications and Information & Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations.

Established in 1997, the IT Leader Awards is the longest running local tech awards, and it continues to be a key industry platform to acknowledge industry veterans and young innovators who spearhead the industry’s transformation, growth and development. The judging panel of the IT Leader Awards is made up of distinguished judges from various sectors such as business, public, and academia.

The IT Leader Awards 2020 comprises five categories.

1. IT Leader of the Year - Honours individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership in various capacities, exemplifying professionalism, business acumen, entrepreneurship, mentorship and skill in community relations.

2. Hall of Fame - Honours individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the local infocomm and digital media industry over an extended period of time.

3. Entrepreneur of the Year - Honours entrepreneurs who have overcome odds to stand out among the competition to establish a successful, prominent, and sustainable infocomm and digital media business enterprise in Singapore.

4. Professional of the Year - Honours professionals who used their expertise in next generation technologies to deliver an outstanding contribution and impact to society through their life-changing products or solutions.

5. IT Youth - Honours young persons who have shown sustained commitment to infocomm and digital media, and made a difference with their contributions by instilling passion for infocomm and digital media amongst their peers.

In the face of new market realities posed by the COVID-19 crisis, the IT Leader Awards 2021 takes on a special theme - Tech Heroes From Crisis – as a special tribute to individuals or teams who have made a significant positive impact on the community through technology or use of technology during the COVID-19 crisis.

The special themed award came at an important time to imbue inspiration and hope among the tech community and the nation as well as to recognise unsung heroes, be it individuals or teams, who have gone above and beyond their call of duties and instrumentally shaping the society in this critical time.

The IT Leader Awards 2021 - Tech Heroes From Crisis is made up three main categories.

1. Infrastructure - Honours individuals or teams who implemented or deployed infrastructural or underlying digital services platforms that have been significantly used in the provision of digital services to benefit the nation or large segments of the community during the COVID-19 crisis.

2. Pathfinder - Honours individuals or teams who developed and deployed outstanding and innovative digital services or solutions that has been adopted by a number of businesses and/or communities to transform their clients’ services to meet new market realities during the COVID-19 crisis.

3. Entrepreneurship - Honours individuals or teams in the small, medium or large companies which have demonstrated strong entrepreneurship abilities by successfully and significantly pivoting their business or services through adoption of digital services during the COVID-19 crisis to respond to the new market realities and business requirements.

A total number of seven IT Leader Awards 2020 were presented to seven individuals and a total number of 13 IT Leader Awards 2021 - Tech Heroes From Crisis were presented to 2 individuals and 11 teams.
