Sep 26, 2019 (China Knowledge) - Yesterday, seven large passenger planes took off from the runway in Daxing International Airport, which meant the world’s largest international airport was officially put into operation.

Located at the frontier between Beijing and Langfang, Hebei Province, Daxing International Airport has 4 runways (with the prospect of becoming 7 in the future), 79 airport stands, and a vast terminal building covering a 700,000m² area.

Up to now, 66 airlines are planning to enter Beijing Daxing International Airport, including 20 domestic airlines, 46 regional and foreign airlines. During the winter and spring flight season of 2019, Beijing Daxing Airport is expected to open 116 routes, including 101 domestic routes and 15 international routes, and covering 112 destinations worldwide, including 97 domestic destinations and 15 international destinations.

According to the Chinese government, the construction of the mega-airport is assessed to have cost around USD 17.47 bln in total. The new airport hopes to welcome 45 mln passengers a year by 2022, 72 mln by 2025 and eventually 100 mln.

“The new airport is a major landmark project in the capital and necessary for the integrated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, which will serve as a new impetus for the growth of our country”, President Xi said on 23 Feb, 2017.
