The conference has also witnessed a remarkable participation from GCC delegates in scientific sessions that were presented by pharmaceutical societies and associations from Saudi, Kuwait, Oman, and Bahrain. The sessions featured and discussed the results of Pharma case studies in the GCC, like: Determining the Prevalence of Polypharmacy among Elderly in Bahrain, Antimicrobial Stewardship Program in Oman: Are We There Yet, The role of Drug Inspection Administration in Combating, Counterfeited Drugs in Kuwait and many others.

About his session, Dr. Abdullah Al-Ajmi from Oman said: “Antimicrobial resistance is an emerging threat to the whole world and the number of new antibiotics that are being introduced to the market is very small. Doctors must learn to optimize the use of antibiotics by applying specific interventions like choosing the right antibiotic based on culture tests, or restricting the use of antibiotics altogether, among other methods. Based on common behavioral traits in our region, Antimicrobial resistance can very well become an epidemic and we need to discuss it now and reach recommendations and action plans for auditing and ensuring the rational use of antibiotics.”
