Why Connect with Companies from Thailand’s Rubber Industry?

The global rubber market continues to expand in 2018, as studies suggest that the global natural rubber output increased 1.1% year on year to 12.4 million tons in 2016, while rubber consumption rose by 3.8% year on year to 12.6 million tons in the same year globally — indicating a gap of 200,000 tons between rubber demand and supply. The growth of the global market has been mainly driven by a significant increase in rubber output in Thailand over the recent years. Thailand is now the world’s largest rubber-producing country, with a total rubber output of 4.5 million tons in 2016, representing around 36.3% of the global production. Thailand remains the world’s largest rubber exporter. In 2016, Thailand exported US$ 4.4 billion worth or equivalent of 3.6 billion tons of natural rubber to the global market. Since global rubber demand — especially demand from China — continues to surge, Thailand’s production and export of rubbers are expected to grow further over the next few years, and so do the business opportunities in Thailand’s rubber market.

Thailand motivates TB patients to receive treatment
Mar 13, 2018

Patient-centered approach overcomes resistance

February 2018 — Sirichai* is a construction worker who lives with his wife in Thailand’s Rayong province. In 2013, he was diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB) and has undergone multiple courses of treatment since then. At the age of 50, he learned that he had severely drug-resistant tuberculosis, and doctors recommended an operation to remove part of his lung.

That same day, Sirichai left the hospital with no plans to return or to have the procedure.

Rather than giving up on Sirichai, his health care team visited him at home to use their proactive approach and discuss his concerns. Sirichai worried about the long trip to the hospital for the lung surgery, and he wondered about who would take care of him afterwards.

“So, when will I be picked up tomorrow? What preparations do I have to do?” asked Sirichai. “I want my son to come with me.”

The team explained the support they could offer, including transportation to the hospital, care during his in-patient stay, and care after he returned home. With his concerns addressed, Sirichai decided to proceed with the operation.

“We gave him time to think and reflect, and the right to make the decision by himself. We only provided enough information so he could decide,” said Preeyapat Intrasub, provincial TB coordinator of the Rayong Provincial Health Office.

Sirichai continues his medicinal treatment and has been responding well. He returned to his construction job, and his health care team is confident that he will successfully complete treatment.

This is one example of the power of interviewing called Motiv8, which inspires patients to change their behavior based on internal motivation rather than external directive.

USAID’s Control and Prevention of Tuberculosis (CAP-TB) project has trained 26 health care providers in Thailand to use the motivational interviewing technique. Since 2015, these providers have been using Motiv8 to promote treatment adherence among TB and drug-resistant TB patients, and the novel approach is spreading in Rayong province.

Motivational interviewing challenges the typical patient-provider relationship where patients are simply expected to comply with providers’ recommendations. With this new approach, the patient and provider are partners in the decision-making process. When TB patients are engaged in this way, those who are ambivalent or resistant to treatment move toward getting the care they need and are more likely to be cured.

“I'm accepted by the patient and they open up to me more,” said a health care provider in Rayong following the Motiv8 training. “Before we knew Motiv8, we only gave information that we want to give to the patient. We rarely listened to the knowledge that they already had, how they think and feel, or what problems they faced.”

Proven effectiveness has led to Motiv8’s use with HIV and TB-HIV coinfected patients, both with and without USAID support. Given its success, continued scale-up of this approach could lead to better treatment adherence and improved outcomes in Asia and beyond.

Motiv8 is only one part of the broader USAID CAP-TB patient-centered approach being implemented in countries throughout Asia. The project, which runs from October 2011 through October 2018, has introduced successful patient-centered treatment programs for multidrug-resistant tuberculosis patients in China, Myanmar and Thailand. Tailored for each location, the project delivers consistently higher patient adherence and treatment success rates by focusing on the patient’s requirements, not just the challenging clinical regimens.

Why Thailand is ready for SETA 2018
Mar 12, 2018

BANGKOK --( ASIA TODAY )-- With Asia as one of the world’s fastest growing economies, it is undoubtedly leading in the forefront of global renewable energy expansion, with its overall capacity projected to occupy 45 percent of the world’s total share, surpassing even the markets of the North America and Western Europe region.

Alternative energy solutions that are rapidly becoming more available and considerably cost-effective, coupled with concerted efforts to implement clean environments - can be said to be the key drivers to propel this exponential growth. Though the robust landscape is dominated by China and India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand are fast becoming strong and significant players.

Thailand is strategically positioned in the hub of this hotspot of rapid growth in renewable energy. It is not only in close proximity with the industry giants of China and India but more importantly, Thailand is fast becoming a force to reckon with, particularly in the markets of its sub-region of ASEAN. BMI’s special report “Asia Renewables : A Sustainable Future” (March 2017) has 2 observations that point to Thailand’s potential as a strong renewables market. One was “Select markets in ASEAN region are fast becoming increasingly attractive for renewable energy investment, with Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia set to dominate the sub-region’s renewables capacity mix over the coming decade”. The other was “we view Thailand as the ASEAN renewables investment bright spot as the country has emerged as the outperforming solar markets in the South East Asia Region…”

Within Thailand, renewable energy is high on its economic growth agenda so as to reduce its dependency on imported energy, as well as to enhance its resources to facilitate overall industrial and economic growth for global competitiveness. Projections show that its renewable energy market share will increase substantially within the next 20 years, with solar power and biomass being the two primary energy alternatives. Its Power Development Plan (2015 to 2036) drawn up in 2015 aims to reduce electricity demand through alternative energy solutions, as well as through energy conservation plans targeted at key groups including industries, business buildings, residences and public areas. In tandem is also the plan to reduce the carbon footprint by 37 percent through increased production of renewable power.

From all perspectives, SETA 2018 in Thailand represents a critical event for Asia’s renewable energy markets. It is a timely and highly visible platform for sponsors, exhibitors and investors to present their projects, products and services to a quality group of B2B visitors comprising high level decision/policy makers, conference delegates and senior corporate representatives as well as from the media and the academia. The multi-themed conference presents a prime dialogue opportunity for policy makers from the the private and public sectors, as well as a learning experience to glimpse into the technology trends in the renewables energy development pipeline. That its host country - Thailand - is one of Asia’s potential players in the renewable energy industry- enhances the content and direction of SETA 2018 as an event not to be missed. Culminating all this is of course the attraction that Thailand is the region’s most preferred destination for business and pleasure.

The SETA 2018, 3-day conference is the excellent platform to bring broaden energy thought-leadership, expertise and innovative technology required to urge the energy investment deploying both of commercial and technical knowledge to shape the energy mix policy and reflect to this economical and environmental flourishing in the region. As uniquely, SETA will vividly urging in broaden discussion for the whole pipe-line energy since upstream, conventional power and electricity production ,through the major energy consumption deployment in transportation sector , and the alternatively key play energy resource –Renewable Energy to bridge with innovative technology solution to the developing and advancing use of renewables and the future of energy aspect with the smart cities solution, all to shape and fulfill the energy mix with secure, affordable and low carbon society for our cities, countries and generations as destination, This is the Must-Attend-Event of the year.

Thais Spend A Record Of 9.38 Hours On The Internet Daily
Investvine, A Company of Inside Investor, Ltd.
Feb 05, 2018

Thai people are spending an average of nine hours and 38 minutes daily on the Internet, with around one third of this time used for consuming social media. This makes the country ranking first in Internet time spent in the world, followed by the Philippines, Brazil, Indonesia and South Africa.

These are the results for the newly released 2018 Global Digital Report by UK-based creative agency We Are Social and Canadian social media marketing firm Hootsuite.

The Philippines took first place for the greatest amount of time spent on social media daily (three hours and 57 minutes). Brazil is just behind them (three hours and 39 minutes) while Indonesia (three hours 23 minutes) and Thailand (three hours ten minutes) come in third and fourth place, respectively.

Interestingly, even though the top five spots are dominated by Southeast Asian countries, only 58 per cent of people in the region have access to the Internet, which highlights a significant digital gap in the region.

Northern Europe and Western Europe have the highest Internet connectivity rate of over 90 per cent, while Central Africa has the lowest rate of only twelve per cent.

Overall, more than four million, well over half of the world’s population, is now online, with the latest data showing that nearly a quarter of a billion new users came online for the first time in 2017. Africa has seen the fastest growth rates, with the number of Internet users across the continent increasing by more than 20 per cent year-on-year.

Likewise, More than three billion people around the world now use social media each month, with nine in ten of those users accessing their chosen platforms via mobile devices.
